Pakistan and the United States Government founded the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan in 1950. The Foundation is guided by a binational commission made up of an equal number of Pakistanis and Americans.

Every year, an American and a Pakistani alternate as Chair. The Foundation is one of 49 Fullbright Commissions spread worldwide.

Since 1952, when the first group of Pakistan ambassadors travelled to America and 1952 when the first American ambassador travelled to Pakistan, the USEFP has moulded a mutual understanding between the people of Pakistan and the people of the United States through its educational and cultural exchange.

The foundation receives support and advice from both the Pakistan and U.S. governments.
