Candidates from the least developed, lowest-income, or lower-middle-income Commonwealth countries are eligible for Commonwealth Shared Scholarships. These scholarships, which are funded jointly by UK universities, are for full-time master’s study in a particular program.

Outstanding and motivated students can acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for sustainable development through the Commonwealth Shared Scholarships, supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO). They are aimed at those who would not be able to study in the UK otherwise.

Benefits of The Commonwealth Shared Scholarships

Applicants will benefit from Commonwealth Shared Scholarships as follows:

• The full cost of tuition would be covered by the CSC grant.
• A round-trip flight ticket will be given.
• A £1,236 monthly stipend will be paid.
• A monthly stipend of £1,516 will be paid to students studying at universities in the London Metropolitan region.
• A stipend for warm clothing will be offered.
• If applicable, the university will cover the expense of the thesis. (Supported by CSC)
• A travel grant for study-related expenses will be provided. Travel can take either in the United Kingdom or abroad.
• The costs of the required tuberculosis test will be paid.
• The visa price will be refunded to you.
• For the first child, a single parent, widowed, or divorced will receive child allowance of £529 per month, and £131 per month for the second and third child who is under 16 years old.
• If you are disabled, you will be given a specific disability award after undergoing a thorough examination and assessment.

Eligibility Requirements

All applicants should meet the following criteria to be eligible for Commonwealth Shared Scholarships:

• The candidate must be a citizen of one of the Commonwealth countries listed above, or have been granted refugee status by one of them.
• Candidates on the British Protected Persons list are eligible to apply.
• A permanent resident of a Commonwealth country is required.
• The candidate must have at least upper second-class (2:1) honors degree or a lower second-class degree (2:2) with first-class marks.
• An appropriate postgraduate qualification, usually a master’s degree, is required of the candidate. From September 2023, the candidate must be able to study in the United Kingdom.
• The candidate must not have studied or worked in the United Kingdom or any other high-income countries for more than one academic year.
• Cannot afford to study in the UK university without this Scholarship.
• Should provide all supporting documentation in the required format.

Application Form Guidelines:

The candidates must provide the following information and documents in the application form:

• All undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications obtained.
• List of up to 10 publications and prizes.
• Employment history details and explain the relevancy of each job to the program to be undertaken in the UK
• A statement on the relevance of applicant’s previous work experience to the proposed Scholarship
• Names and positions of three qualified referees to comment on both the candidate’s capacity to benefit from the Scholarship and ability to deliver development impact afterwards.
• A Development Impact Statement in 4 parts:

1. The first part of the impact statement must explain how the candidate’s proposed Scholarship relates to: Development issues at the local, national, and global level, and development issues connected to candidate’s selected CSC development topics and the wider sector.
2. How the candidate will apply their new skills and qualifications after returning home.
3. What the candidate expects will change in development terms following the Scholarship, including the outcomes they target to achieve, implementation time-frame, and their beneficiaries.
4. The fourth part should highlight how the impact of applicant’s works could be measured well. Please read the details here.
