Requirements and Eligibility Criteria for the Article 26 Scholarship

To be eligible for the University of Sussex Article 26 Scholarship, applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants should have received an offer letter to study for a bachelor’s degree at Sussex.
  • Foundation, Year 1, or Year 2 candidates can apply.
  • The applicant must have submitted or depend on someone who has applied to the UK Home Office for recognition as a Refugee.
  • Hold a temporary form of leave to stay in the United Kingdom with an asylum application.
  • Applicant can be migrant who is not eligible for funding from Student Finance England
  • Alternatively, the applicant can be a partner or child of an asylum-seeker applicant or an unaccompanied asylum-seeking child.
  • Demonstrate a household income of less than £25,000.
  • They cannot access the UK government’s student financial support because of their current immigration status.
Who Are Not Eligible?

Applicants are not eligible for this scholarship if they are:

  • Applying for a Degree at a university other than the University of Sussex
  • Going to the final year of a degree at Sussex
  • Studying an online course
  • Undertaking one of the Excluded courses listed below.

Excluded Courses:

Applicants who are going to study any of the following fields are not eligible for the Article 26 Scholarship 2023:

  • Diplomas and Certificates, including Postgraduate Certificate of Education.
  • Studying courses at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS)
  • If receiving a National Health Service (NHS) bursary and following degrees in social work
  • Undertaking an online course
  • Schools direct teaching courses
