Opportunity Description

The Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), a global non-profit, non-governmental organization, was founded in 2018. The original members include 37 academic institutions, global organizations, and scientific associations. In addition to advancing local, national, and international science and technology capabilities, human livelihoods, and welfare, ANSO seeks to encourage improved collaboration, technology, and communication.

The ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents was formally founded in 2019 to support the growth of young scientists worldwide. Through the ANSO Scholarship, 200 Master’s students and 300 Ph.D. candidates will receive funding each year to attend postgraduate programs at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Science & Technology of China, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, or CAS institutes spread out across China.

This year, the ANSO Scholarship officially launched the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO Ph.D. Scholarship. The two target groups for UNESCO—the least developed countries (LDCs) and women—will get special attention in line with TWAS aims. Each year, TWAS/UNESCO will select up to 40 Ph.D. applicants from developing nations for this category.

As a crucial founding member of the organization, CAS serves as the primary sponsor of the ANSO Scholarship. A portion of the funding for the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO Ph.D. Scholarships come from TWAS & UNESCO, two of the group’s founding members. Everyone is urged to participate if they want to collaborate with ANSO to create a scholarship program that is far more diverse.

Benefits of The 2023 ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents

• Students pursuing master’s degrees receive a monthly stipend of 3000 RMB.

Eligibility Criteria for ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents

• Candidates must not be Chinese nationals.
• For master’s programs, a bachelor’s degree is necessary, and for Ph.D. programs, a master’s degree is.
• English or Chinese communication skills are required.
• A master’s degree applicant must be under 30 years old.
• A Ph.D. candidate must be less than 35 years old.
• Applicants are not permitted to work throughout the scholarship period.
• Must meet entrance requirements.
• This grant is not open to candidates who are now enrolled in one of the Chinese institutes for a Master’s or Ph.D. program.
• One person cannot simultaneously apply for USTC and UCAS.
• It is only necessary to apply for one supervisor from the USTC or UCAS institute.

NOTE: Successful candidates awarded an ANSO scholarship to pursue a master’s degree will have their scholarship stopped and canceled if they do not pass the yearly evaluation. Additionally, Ph.D. applicants are unable to give the annual review. They won’t receive a formal Ph.D. degree, and their scholarship will be revoked.

Required Documents for ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents

• Chinese or English language competency certificate.
• Copy of the 1st page of the passport (information pages).
• Include your research experience in a new version of your CV.
• Recent academic records, including transcripts and certificates (bachelor’s degrees for master’s and Ph.D.).
• Bachelor’s and Master’s degree certificates are required.
• Two letters of reference from former academic advisers who are familiar with you; the letters must be in Chinese or English, be signed, and be printed on letterhead with your name, the date, and contact information (email and phone number).
• Five copies of scholarly works published as a research proposal (if possible).
• You need a medical certificate.

NOTES

• English or Chinese must be used to write all documents.
• For the online application system, the materials must be in the appropriate format.
• A scholarship recipient must present a physical copy of their passport, academic transcript, and academic diploma to the USTC/UCAS scholarship office upon arrival in China.
• Those who apply but do not satisfy these requirements will be rejected.
• CAS will fund the items above 1 through 4 for the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO Ph.D. recipients. Scholarship; items TWAS/UNESCO will cover 5 and 6. CAS will pay all the expenses mentioned above for all other recipients of ANSO Scholarships.
• The criteria and process for item 5 and item 6’s reimbursement and allowance shall adhere to the sponsor’s regulations.
• Any scholarship recipient physically present in China, the host nation, at the time of application would NOT be qualified for travel reimbursement.
• All recipients of awards must complete centralized instruction in the Chinese language and Chinese culture, all prerequisite credits, practical research, and completion of their degree thesis in colleges and schools affiliated with USTC/UCAS or CAS institutes.

Any recipient of a master’s degree who fails their yearly examinations will suffer the following penalties:

• Having their scholarship revoked;
• Ceasing to pursue a master’s degree; and
• Receiving only a certificate of attendance for the time spent studying in China rather than a complete master’s degree.

If a Ph.D. recipient fails the qualification exam or annual assessment, they may be subject to the following penalties:

• Having their scholarship revoked;
• Ceasing their Ph.D. studies; and
• Receiving a certificate of attendance for the time spent studying in China but not a doctoral degree.

All recipients of awards are expected to follow Chinese law as well as USTC/UCAS guidelines.

How to Apply?

• Identify a mentor from a qualified institution. If the professor approves you, send your CV, research proposal, and other necessary materials to them by email. Additionally, you must specify the degree you want to pursue.
• Before the scholarship deadline, email the supervisor’s remark page to the USTC or UCAS and ask your supervisor to sign and finish it.
• Request that the college or institute your supervisor is connected to for the UCAS receive a physical copy of the Supervisor’s feedback page.
• Complete the online application form and upload the necessary files.
